The Construction Index is always an interesting factor regarding the economic outlook for any country be they developed or developing. Latest results published show that Construction companies are feeling the upturn in the economic outlook and it is transferring into higher client spending. The construction industry expanded in October and November with slower growth last month but that should translate into a bounce back for the first quarter of 2014.
2013 appears to have been a year when some lost ground was regained since the downturn. The Markit/CIPS UK Construction Purchasing Managers Index was slightly stronger than the expectations for December 2013. A number of recent surveys have indicated that November 2013 recorded the biggest growth rate in commercial projects since 2007.
The housing market is the fastest growing sector, and has no doubt been aided by the relaxed planning laws (for extensions), the Help-to-Buy initiative and the govenment's scheme to increase access to mortgages. .
